Minnesotans have been eagerly awaiting the completion of Target Center’s phase 3 renovations. Home to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx, Target Center is one of the most utilized special events venues in the United States.
At 27 years old, the building was in need of a fresh look. Particular touches and finishes of high design now grace nearly every surface of Target Center, and our glass railings stand among the best of them.
SC Railing Company provided 600 linear feet of glass railing for Target Center’s $145 million renovation project. Thoughtful planning and design came to include a brand new glass façade for the main entrance and lobby, likened to cracking the building open, and allowing light to pour in.
In keeping with this new design, and to promote the passage of light throughout the interior space, glass railings were a must. But not just any old glass would do!
We worked with trusted manufacturers to produce two sorts of specialty glass for Target Center, with incredible results. Cardinal Glass Industries and Bendheim Architectural Glass both provided ½” tempered glass with a special PVB interlayer, resulting in a semi-transparent, “tinted” glass.
GlasPro and Standard Bent Glass worked to provide us with expertly bent ½” tempered glass, including glass with a uniquely-tight radius.
Let us not forget that the craftsmen at SC Railing Company were called upon to produce stainless top rail to meet the flow and curvature of these railing designs. Challenges specific to the project were weighed, accepted, and met in spades.
We believe this project is a testament to our ability to provide railings that are not just standard, cookie-cutter products. We set out to satisfy the vision of project architects, Alliiance Architecture and Sink Combs Dethlefs.
You will see our striking glass railing designs alongside imaginative and artistic elements, such as the large basketball goal chandelier hanging from the atrium floor to the lobby, the coordinating metal basketball sculpture hanging above the atrium floor, and the life-size statue of former Minnesota Lakers phenom, George Mikan, located in the Life Time lobby.
Target Center is now a total reimagination of what it once was, thoughtfully planned, and brought to successful completion. SC Railing Company is pleased to have been chosen to provide our premier glass railing products to shine throughout this revitalized building.
