Wicona releases BIM components for its façade systems

Date: 18 July 2014

Aluminium façade specialist, Wicona, has released Building Information Modelling (BIM) components for its curtain walling, window and door systems, which are now available to download from the BIMstore.

Wicona is an early responder to the Government’s Construction Strategy which requires detailed BIM information, documentation and data to be available for all public sector projects by 2016.  Building specifiers, designers and contractors can now benefit from fully supported BIM-ready solutions from Wicona well ahead of the deadline.Wicona’s BIM objects are fully compatible with Autodesk Revit 2013 and later editions, and are free to download for the following façade systems: WICTEC 50 curtain walling WICTEC 50SG structural glazing WICLINE casement windows – 65 evo, 75 evo and SG90 WICSLIDE 160 sliding door WICSTYLE 75 evo door Wicona materials library. “The implementation of BIM across the industry is set to change the dynamics and behaviours of the construction supply chain and should result in more efficient and collaborative ways of working, which has to be very positive,” said Jon Palethorpe, Director for Wicona.“We are entering a new digital construction era that should position the UK as a global leader in BIM technology, and we are very pleased to be part of this important development.”The aim of BIM is to achieve significant improvements in construction costs, value and carbon performance with the use of open, shareable asset information throughout a project and a building’s life cycle – from initial design and construction through to operation, maintenance, dismantling and recycling. The BIM software allows all design data to be organised in one place rather than through many separate drawings, and uses 3D constructions to improve building design productivity.  Each object details specifications and performance information, such as size, colour and materials. In addition to its BIM components and technical support, Wicona provides a range of technology-based specification tools to assist with façade design, including downloadable technical information, an ‘ideas’ app, and Wicona Finder – an architectural database and invaluable source of innovative design solutions for curtain walling, windows and doors. To view and download Wicona’s BIM components, see BIMstore.co.uk">www.BIMstore.co.uk.  For further information about its façade systems for complex and challenging projects, see www.wicona.co.uk or email info.wiconauk@wicona.com.
