NGA has published two new Glass Technical Papers (GTP) – Introduction to Hybrid VIG Fabrication and Flat Glass Industry Environmental Transparency Documents.

AVAILABLE FOR IMMEDIATE DOWNLOAD FROM THE NGA STORE

Task groups comprised of member volunteers within the Fabricating and Forming Committees worked to develop these brand-new resources to address the evolution of products and their impact on environmental performance.

Introduction to Hybrid VIG Fabrication discusses areas within the fabrication process that may differ from standard IGU production when incorporating fully fabricated VIGs into an existing line to create hybrid VIGs (HVIG). This GTP complements and expands upon the existing information outlined in the Introduction to Vacuum Insulating Glazing GTP.

In 2019, NGA issued a poll to its members on the need for resources on the topic of VIG; 90% of participants responded favorably, noting the need for information on VIG, hybrid VIG, and how its integration into a fabrication line would change the equipment and process required.

According to Kayla Natividad, NSG|Pilkington and VIG task group chair, “It’s important that those looking to adopt new glazing technologies into their fabrication line have resources to address their concerns. The members of this task group did an excellent job taking the members input to produce a resource that is as up-to-date as possible.”

Flat Glass Industry Environmental Transparency Documents was written for industry stakeholders and sustainability programs to foster better understanding of the environmental performance of glass products manufactured for buildings. Find additional materials on flat glass sustainability initiatives on our Advocacy page.

“This GTP is a consolidation of readily available resources on sustainability initiatives of the flat glass industry,” explains Urmilla Sowell, NGA advocacy and technical director. “NGA wants to make it as easy as possible for interested parties to find the information they need to accurately address the use of flat glass products in building design and construction.”
