Kawneer’s New 1620/1620 SSG Curtain Wall System Features a Slim Sightline So You Can See More

Date: 8 May 2014

Leveraging the Strength and Reliability of the Flagship 1600 Curtain Wall Platform, the New System Offers Desired Aesthetic for Low-to-Mid-Rise Applications   Kawneer Company, Inc., an Alcoa business and the leading manufacturer of architectural aluminum products and systems for commercial construction, introduces the new 1620/1620 SSG (structural silicone glazed) Curtain Wall System.

With a slim, 2-inch profile, the 1620/1620 SSG Curtain Wall System delivers the desired narrow sightline aesthetic of many traditional storefront systems while maintaining the performance levels and options expected from a curtain wall system.

Built on the strength and reliability of Kawneer’s flagship 1600 curtain wall platform, the 1620/1620 SSG Curtain Wall System offers both the architect and glazing contractor several performance and aesthetic features and options. An excellent choice for low- to mid-rise applications, the 1620/1620 SSG Curtain Wall System provides slimmed down sightlines that not only allow more light to enter the building, but also contribute to an expanded view of the outside environment. The curtain wall system is engineered with a thermal break and can accommodate double pane insulating glass. A fiberglass pressure plate option provides additional thermal performance. The stick fabricated, pressure-glazed curtain wall system offers a vertical SSG mullion solution that permits greater uninterrupted sightlines. Additionally, both options use concealed fasteners in their joinery construction to create flush and unbroken sightlines.

The versatile 1620/1620 SSG Curtain Wall System allows building owners, architects and glaziers to meet North American building codes, while providing fast installation, simplified fabrication, robust design options and value. Straight cuts without notching help ease the fabrication process and further simplify installation. In addition, a pre-engineered rainscreen pressure-equalized (RSPE) back pan option offering easy-to-install spandrel adapters is available. The design features of the 1620/1620 SSG have been tested in accordance with U.S. and Canadian standards for curtain walls, including air and water infiltration, thermal transmittance, severe wind-driven rain, acoustical, and condensation resistance.
