The products of Şişecam Flat Glass are preferred for Istanbul New Airport project. The mega project will cover a glass area of more than 200,000 square meters at the first stage. "Şişecam Temperable Solar Control Low-E Glass", which offers solutions for saving energy, safety, security and noise control requirements, will be preferred for the project's façades and skylights.
As a part of Şişecam Group, the global player of the glass industry, Şişecam Flat Glass, Europe's largest and the world's fifth largest flat glass producer, will take part in Istanbul New Airport project with its products which will be used for the façades and skylights covering an area of more than 200,000 square meters.
By the time of completion of its first phase in the first quarter of 2018, the airport will serve 90 million passengers per year, while this number will be increased to 200 million passengers anually once all the phases are completed.
Şişecam Flat Glass’ high performance products are preferred for the project, offering solutions for effective energy savings, noise control, aesthetics, safety and security requirements. Şişecam Flat Glass’ high-quality new product, "Temperable Solar Control Low-E Glass", which is developed for Istanbul New Airport project, will be used for the façades of the project.
Preferred insulating glass unit for the façades of Istanbul New Airport project, incorporated with the new high-quality Şişecam Temperable Solar Control Low-E Glass offers a light transmission of 51%, and thus ensures a transparent design with optimum light transmission and low reflection.
In addition, insulating glass unit preferred for the project allows only 29% of the solar energy to be transmitted, while it reduces heat losses by 50% compared to an ordinary double-glazed unit in winter, offering savings on both cooling and heating expenses.
On the other hand, the temperable property of the glass provides safety and reduces the risk of injuries that may be caused by glass breaking. The laminated glass preferred for both interior and exterior panes combination offers noise control in addition to security benefits.
For skylights where efficient solar protection is needed, Şişecam Temperable Solar Control Low-E Glass is preferred, allowing the entrance of only 26% of the solar energy and reduces heat losses by 50% compared to an ordinary double-glazed unit, offering savings on both cooling and heating expenses.
Thanks to its light transmission of 40%, the new product also allows enjoying the view of the sky and clouds without compromising the brightness of indoor spaces. The laminated glass, which is preferred for the interior pane, provides security benefits.
