Eastman is excited to announce the launch of its new enhanced acoustic interlayer - Saflex® E series acoustic polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer.

Saflex® E series is uniquely formulated to dampen sound, particularly in the high frequency range, and provides overall improved performance compared to traditional acoustic interlayers.

“Consumer expectations continue to rise,” says Heather Singler, commercial director for Eastman Automotive Interlayers. “The need to design a cabin which effectively minimizes the impact of outside noise across all frequencies is increasingly important. The new Saflex E series is a great addition to automotive engineers’ toolkit for creating a more comfortable cabin experience.”

The E series interlayer creates a more balanced sound profile across frequency ranges and vehicle speeds which offers numerous benefits. Voice recognition for commands/calls continues to play an increasing role for drivers, and a quiet cabin helps these systems function more effectively. Conversation, even with backseat passengers, is improved. Unpleasant outside noises are significantly reduced, especially in the high frequency levels, reducing stress and driver fatigue. Most importantly, the driver is less distracted and better able to focus on driving safely.

Eastman has leveraged its patented resin and plasticizer technology platforms to formulate a unique viscoelastic core layer, called TranquilGlass. TranquilGlass allows the glass-interlayer system to effectively dissipate noise vibrations while maintaining the safety benefits expected from laminated glass. As a result, overall acoustic performance is improved, especially in the critical wind noise region.

“We expect E series to play a key role in driving the continued use of acoustic interlayers in the automotive industry,” says Travis Smith, Eastman’s vice president & general manager for Films. “We are excited to bring E series to market as part of Eastman’s focus on continual innovation to support the needs of the automotive industry.”

Eastman will further introduce E series enhanced acoustic interlayers at two upcoming industry events. China Vehicle Glazing Innovation Summit 2019 from October 24-25, 2019 at The Longemont Hotel Shanghai in Shanghai, China, and at the International CTI Conference Automotive Glazing Europe from October 29-30, 2019 featuring presentations by our technology experts and developers of E series during both events.
