We are now using the latest 3D software from Solidworks and Autodesk to design new prototypes and then print them in 3D using an ‘Ultimaker’ 3D printer.

Once the drawings have been created, the fabrication team can print 3D versions of components to make sure the custom extrusions will fit together.

Commenting on the new 3D printing system, Rob Sanders said, “Most of Structura’s refurbishment projects require the design and production of new aluminium profiles, thermal breaks, gaskets and accessories.

“We can now design these using the latest software and create prototypes using 3D printing to give us the confidence that everything will fit before going into mass production.”
