Saint-Gobain in Poland and NorDan Group Partnership Towards the Sustainable Window

Date: 17 July 2024

Saint-Gobain in Poland and NorDan Group join forces to lead the market towards the sustainable window.

In Europe, the building sector contributes 36%ⁱ of greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, 75% of existing buildings are energy inefficient. Improving the sustainability of the construction industry represents a huge opportunity to mitigate the impact of climate change.

Saint-Gobain in Poland and NorDan Group are working together to effectively support decarbonization of the construction industry. Using the best knowledge and practices of both companies, for which sustainable development is a critical element of the strategy, Saint-Gobain and NorDan undertake to create an offer of windows with a reduced carbon footprint.

To offer a window with a low carbon footprint, the NorDan's wooden frame from the GreenTechⁱⁱ range will be combined with glazing units integrating ORAÉ®ⁱⁱⁱ, the world's first glass with a reduced carbon footprint by Saint-Gobain Glass. To ensure the best decarbonization in use, ORAÉ® for windows is combined with energy efficient coatings ECLAZ® or COOL-LITE® SKN176.

True to their values, Saint-Gobain in Poland and NorDan Group have the ambition to support developers, private and institutional investors, as well as architects in building and designing more sustainable buildings with a lower carbon footprint in accordance with the principles of the circular economy.

Saint-Gobain and NorDan Group Partnership Towards the Sustainable Window

Rafał Jurczyk, General Director, Saint-Gobain Polska said: "A window with a reduced carbon footprint is an important step on the path towards decarbonization of the construction sector. As both companies are committed to act for sustainability, I am glad that today Saint-Gobain Polska is joining forces with NorDan Group. Thanks to this collaboration and combining low carbon glazings integrating ORAÉ® with NorDan wooden frames, our aspirations for sustainable construction are taking a real shape. This partnership sets a new quality of cooperation in the industry focused on important environmental goals."

Dag Kroslid, NorDan Group CEO added: "Sustainability and innovation go hand in hand. The ORAÉ® solution from Saint-Gobain is a true innovation in the sustainable glass technology and leads the way towards much higher use of glass with recycled content in the building industry. I am very pleased that we at NorDan Group have been given the opportunity to partner with Saint-Gobain in using low carbon ORAÉ® glass to deliver low carbon windows to our markets and customers in Scandinavia, the UK, and Ireland. This is a true example of UN Sustainable Development Goal 17, “Partnerships for the Goals”. In our wood-alu window, glass constitutes more than 50% of the window’s Global Warming Potential (GWP in kgCO₂eq). With windows from NorDan using ORAÉ® glass from Saint-Gobain, we most likely offer the best Low Carbon Window Solution (LCWS) currently available on the market. We document the actual effect in our industry leading EPDs for windows."

Both companies wish to continue developing their cooperation with other stakeholders, expanding research to develop even more sustainable products and to remain a leader in this type of activities, going beyond the limits introduced by applicable regulations.
