Rohm and Haas Company said that its Board of Directors elected Suzanne B. Rowland a vice president of the company at a regularly scheduled board meeting.Rowland, 40, joined Rohm and Haas in 1985 as market manager for textile chemicals in North America.

Three years later, she was named financial analyst for the Bristol, Pennsylvania plant and, later, controller of the Philadelphia plant.

In 1990, she assumed responsibilities as the business manager for Precious Metals Recovery. Rowland served as manager of the Croydon, Pennsylvania, plant from 1995 to 1997, where she gained experience running one of the company's emulsion manufacturing facilities.

Rowland has worked in business management since 1997. That year, she became business manager for the North American Specialty Polymers business, which makes products for the paper, textile, nonwonvens, adhesives and leather markets. In 1999, she was named business director for North American Coatings. Rowland assumed her current position in April 2001, when these two businesses were combined into a single business with annual sales of approximately $900 million.

Rowland holds a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania (1983), and a M.B.A. from the London Business School. Ms. Rowland and her family reside in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.
