Re-cycled aluminium fenestration for a sustainable sustainability project | Hazlemere Commercial

The home page of Bideford College’s website proudly states that “Bideford College is housed in one of the most fantastic school buildings in the country. Not only is our college modern, it has been exceptionally well designed and resourced to meet the demands of providing a first rate education for up to 1,800 students.”

The College website home page also goes on to mention that “It is always a pleasure for us to show our college to visitors. Whether you are in the process of making a choice of secondary school for your children or you simply have an interest in what your community’s secondary school looks and feels like on a normal school day, then we extend a warm invitation to you to visit us.”

Bideford College was a £44 million pound new build sustainability project that was built by main contractors Morgan Sindall. The project involved the erection of seven very large new educational buildings that involved several environmentally friendly features including a biomass heating system, automatic double glazed aluminium windows controlled by an energy management system, and a sedum green roof have helped Bideford College achieve a BREEAM excellent rating.

All the thermally broken commercial aluminium windows, curtain walling and doors were manufactured by Hazlemere Commercial from 100% re-cycled aluminium billet. helping to make the overall project an award winning sustainability project that to this day continues to deliver on its green credentials. Morgan Sindall sub-contracted the fabrication and installation of all the £2.4 million pounds worth of aluminium curtain walling, a 70 metre sloped aluminium double glazed rooflight, aluminium casement windows and commercial aluminium entrance doors.
