His eye popping printed glass public art installation at the Wexford Apartments in Subiaco is a dynamic visual feast! Currently under construction and nearing completion, the 3100mm high custom laminated glass panels are installed in a faceted arrangement, dispersed with perforated alumnium panels.
Printed using ImagInk ceramic printing, Rick’s design features multiple transparencies layered over a custom selection of Vanceva coloured interlayers creating amazing depth and colour. Using a custom laminate glass makeup at 13.52mm thick, the printed inks change colour depending on which face of the glass is viewed. From the internal area the white inks appear tinted with colour, from the external area the graphics appear as crisp white forms.
Rick’s distinct graphic style utilises solid and semi transparent areas of printed glass designed to interact with light and the Vanceva interlayer, creating amazing casts of shadow and coloured light across the internal and external spaces.
Once the glass installation is finished, Rick will be fitting a custom LED lighting system behind the panels to illuminate the massive glass panels onto the pedestrian thoroughfare in the evening. These lights will be controllable via a network system to allow custom pattens and strength of lighting. We can’t wait to see it all lit up, and we’ll be interviewing Rick for comment on this superb installation once complete – watch this space!
