A new float plant joins the Group with the warm-up of the CS1 plant at Changsu, China. Construction work has been completed in record time – just 16 months.

Work started on site in April 2005 and glass making is expected to begin by the end of September 2006.

With a total project cost of 699 m RMB (equivalent to € 69 m), the CS1 plant is a 50/50 joint venture between Pilkington and SYP and will be operated by SYP. The plant has been built to a Pilkington design and the build co-managed by a joint SYP-Pilkington team.

The project is on time and on budget. The Pilkington project manager is Robert Homer and another key player from Pilkington has been Barry Jones as Project senior buyer. The Production Director is Warren Seal, who arrived on site recently at the beginning of a two-year secondment from Pilkington Australia.
