Due to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic Unelko, the makers of the Invisible Shield® Glass Coatings have had numerous calls asking whether its coatings make glass “Antimicrobial” and resistant to bacteria, virus and other microbes. The answer is Yes!
Microbes like to grow on hard surfaces, whether natural or manmade. When it comes to industrial surfaces, bacteria are just doing “what comes naturally” by attaching to the surfaces with which they come into contact. The attachment causes many problems for a wide range of industrial applications. Biofilm contamination and fouling is responsible for billions of dollars in lost productivity, product and capital equipment damage each year.
Invisible Shield, Invisible Shield PRO 15 and REPEL® Glass Coating Technologies provide durable water, soil, stain and bio-film repellent “barrier” coatings that preserve and protect glass and other surfaces against Corrosion, Scratching, Pitting and the adhesion and growth of Bio-films and Microbes.
Glass surfaces are like sponges; they have microscopic pores that trap water, organic and inorganic soil, minerals, pollution and bio-films that contain a variety of microorganisms. The attack of airborne pollutants, soil, stains, fingerprints, minerals and contaminants build up on glass and pose a difficult cleaning problem. The deposits, stains and films can be a “breeding ground” for a variety of microorganisms or pathogens that can cross contaminate and/or permanently damage glass.
The Invisible Shield & REPEL Glass Coatings seal the microscopic pores of glass with a covalent “molecular” bonded coating that resists visible soiling, staining, pollution and contamination for easier cleaning, increased performance and improved surface hygiene. The coating eliminates the moisture and nutrients necessary for the microbes/pathogens to survive on glass and other surfaces.
Unelko makes no public health claim for Covid-19 or other harmful germs. There have been numerous scientific studies that have confirmed the antimicrobial benefits of coatings as an effective preventive strategy against bio-film formation and the growth of microorganisms.
Unelko’s Invisible Shield Glass Coatings resist soil load and microbial adhesion and severely weaken bio-film formation and associated issues. The Invisible Shield Glass Coatings are an important element to preserve & protect glass and prevent the adhesion of water, soil, stains, bio-films and pathogens supported by some form of periodic cleaning and/or disinfecting. Unelko recommends the use of its glass coatings to seal and preserve glass long term, and the use of its REPEL® Antimicrobial Cleaning Technology to periodically clean and refresh the barrier coating.
