The plant also will include a technologically advanced coating machine, which enables the manufacture of a variety of world-class, high-performance coated glass products to serve the region as well as international customers. The coater is expected to be operational by October 2008.
Guardian said its investment in Russia is a natural progression following investments in Central and Eastern Europe. “This was the right time for Guardian to move into this growing region,” said Lajos Sapi, group vice president of Central and Eastern Europe.
“The decision to build in Ryazan fits with our global strategy and our marketing
considerations.” Guardian maintains facilities in Oroshaza, Hungary; Thalheim, Germany; and Czestochowa, Poland, among other European locations. “Throughout this process, we have received outstanding support from Ryazan Governor Oleg Ivanovich Kovalev, former Governor Shpak, Mayor Provotorov and their administrations,” said Russ Ebeid, president of Guardian’s glass group. “We’re looking forward to a great future in Russia.”
