The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) described the centre as “an exciting building which embraces many of the guiding principles of universal design. It said: “It is evident that the design team engaged with and carefully considered the end-users throughout the design and construction phases.” The RIAI said: “The use of colour, choice of materials and the simplicity of its layout contribute greatly to its ease of use. The result is a dynamic building devoted to providing sports and recreational facilities to the students and staff of UCD as well as to members of the public. The chair of the judging panel, said the building was a dynamic piece of Irish architecture. The glass chosen by the design team was Solar Neutral HP TG 51, this offers a low solar factor/G Value of 28% and a light transmission of 51%, Solar Neutral HP TG 51 provides exceptional solar control with a high light transmission and a low U value of 1.0 to provide exceptional control over the temperature inside this building.
