"Building the city of the future" – in architecture and town planning, this means an intensive examination of the requirements of the building envelope, of façades, windows and doors.

Here, the cooperation between glass and aluminium shows that they are multi-talented, meeting the challenges of the future.

WICONA presents this symbiotic relationship at BAU 2017 together with Guardian Glass, one of the world's largest manufacturers of float glass and fabricated glass products.

Scientific studies describe the most important influencing factors affecting façades in urban areas: security (fire and burglary protection), noise (sound insulation), natural phenomena such as storms and heavy rain (weather protection), emissions, energy efficiency (thermal insulation in winter and summer) and light.

Meeting these requirements means breaking new ground and presenting solutions for residents and building occupants.

This is WICONA and Guardian Glass's aim for their joint presentation at BAU 2017:

"At WICONA, innovation is a practised philosophy", explains Isabelle Fabbro, WICONA's Brand Development Manager, "with the development of highly energy-efficient aluminium solutions for sustainable urban new-build projects, we are setting real trends with our show partner, Guardian Glass. The market and the industry are looking to us for highly efficient, deliverable innovations for people and the environment."

Systems from WICONA and Guardian Glass have already been used together in many projects in the past. This association is visible on almost all of the exhibits on the WICONA exhibition stand at BAU.

"The aim of the joint appearance is to provide visitors with a comprehensive picture of our construction and glazing solutions, and combining the technologies of WICONA and Guardian Glass achieves better results than doing this individually", confirms Lance Altizer, European Marketing Manager at Guardian Glass.

Planners, architects and fabricators as well as builders and investors will benefit from this.

As well as WICONA experts on the exhibition stand, there are also representatives from Guardian Glass, who are available for answering questions about the properties and function of the high-tech glazing used in the exhibits.

Some examples of the joint presentation include:

  • Guardian provides a special coating to the exposed glazed surfaces of the highly efficient WICLINE 75, offering a solution for minimising condensation in extreme weather conditions (Guardian ClimaGuard® Dry).
  • Anti-reflective glass (Guardian Clarity®) in the WICSLIDE 75 sliding door provides the highest levels of transparency for the most demanding spaces.
  • For the WICONA new design façade, Guardian provides colour-matched solar control glass (SunGuard® Solar Bronze 20) with an architectural sample in a dotted pattern.
  • The WICONA WICTEC MODUL AIR is displayed with sun protection on the impact pane (SunGuard® HD Neutral 67) and highly efficient thermal insulation in the triple glazing behind it (ClimaGuard®).

The idea behind this cooperation with a high-tech glazing manufacturer is to immediately give the visitor comprehensible solutions which are geared to specific challenges in building the city of the future.

"Last but not least, we at WICONA are also demonstrating by our innovations that we have pioneering know-how and the right network to be able to deliver the correct comprehensive system to meet any requirement," states Isabelle Fabbro.

"Whether our clients are investors, planners or fabricators, we are the right partner for them."
