Date: 24 April 2015

Under the auspices of the Business Academy of Finance, 23 different projects were submitted in four different categories by 21 companies and organizations.

According to the panel of expert judges, Steklarna Hrastnik won in the category of Energy Efficiency Project in 2015.  Steklarna Hrastnik won due the following project: "Renovation work of furnace B and its surroundings, and renovation of hot and cold part in the business unit Special". The project includes the innovations in the glass industry, which effect both environmental and energy improvements. The key innovations are a reduction in specific energy consumption of the furnace B, despite the increased capacity of the new furnace (138 tons of glass per day), a completely new, energy-efficient cooling system of IS machines, heating of a part of the production with clean heated air obtained by cooling the furnace B, and total reconstruction of facilities for the treatment of process water.

"All the environmental and energy improvements have occurred internally and as a result of the excellent technical knowledge of our employees. Precisely due the knowledge and motivation of our employees, we carried out a 8.6 million Euro project in the record 48 days. Therefore, I am even more pleased that we won in the category," said Andrej Božič, General Manager of Steklarna Hrastnik. "It is very important to have excellent service and satisfy the needs of customers with quality products, but it is not enough. The company should take care for the environment and energy efficiency, especially in energy-intensive manufacturing companies such as ours. In our company, these two areas are as linked as inhalation and exhalation."

With this extensive environmental investment, Steklarna Hrastnik reduced specific energy consumption for melting by 16%, the value of NOx emissions by 89% and CO2 by 25%. Moreover, they also rationalize the use of water, which is reduced by about 64%.
