Select International And Guardian Industries, Inc. Take-On Turnover

Date: 17 January 2007

Select International, a global provider of human resource assessment solutions, was selected by Guardian Industries Corp. to assess prospective entry-level production and maintenance employees at plants in DeWitt, Iowa and Carleton, Michigan.

The primary objective is to improve new hire turnover rates.

“With the convenience of our EZ App® and Personal Preference Questionnaire, Guardian Industries is able to simplify the application process while reducing turnover in manufacturing positions,” explained Kevin Klinvex, Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of Select International. “The use of these combined technologies will ensure that Guardian Industries is hiring the most qualified workers.”

Guardian is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of glass products. Increased competition for prospective employees near Guardian’s facilities contributed to a 40-percent turnover rate for new employees in the first three months. Guardian previously used a traditional paper application process, which required candidates to apply at each facility. Guardian wanted to widen the potential candidate recruiting area and make it easier to apply for open positions. The company also wanted a tool to better assess candidates and ensure it was hiring people who would fit with Guardian’s environment and culture.

“We are now able to reach out to more employee prospects than ever before, because the system is online,” said Doug Petersma, HR Manager at the DeWitt facility. “The Select system is effective and easy to use.”
