Located in the vibrant Victoria Gardens Corporate precinct, this multi-tenented building perfectly captures light and celebrates its natural surroundings – and the recently completed upgrade has taken it to the next level.
For what was already an A-grade building in its own right, owners Salta Property’s set out to upgrade the interior comprising 11,000m² of adaptable spaces for commercial tenants spanning over four storeys, engaging Technè Archiecture + Interior Design and builders Rodine for the job.
Works involved giving a facelift to the main entry and foyer as well as enhancements to the amenities on all floors.
The most striking elements greet you upon entry with the complete 90m² of balustrading for the four upper levels using Glassworks SEFAR mesh laminated glass installed by Stevens Glass with complementing thin brass edging and bronze capping to secure the glazing.
SEFAR is a quality aluminium mesh from Switzerland exclusively laminated between two panes of glass by Glassworks in Australia. It is available in Aluminium (raw) or Printed Gold/Copper in various densities for different looks or levels of privacy.
“The denser variants can provide truly bold looking results expecially in Gold or other printed colours,” says General Manager of Glassworks, Michael Gleeson. He added that tying in with the subtle hues and elegance of the 678 Victoria St project, Printed Gold in 140/50 was selected on Low Iron extra clear glass and has delivered exactly what the project called for.
This balustrade blends in beautifully with the other strong masonry elements making up the interior including soft bronze, oak and charcoal tones.
Best of all, in no way does the extensive use of mesh laminated glass distract from the main feature of the foyer – the magnificent suspended brass gold light structure designed and manufactured specifically for the project.
678 Victoria St is a perfect example of urban meets suburban being situated on the banks of the Yarra River surrounded by gumtrees on the fringe of the CBD.
Technè Architecture and Rodine have successfully created a building with abundant natural light and a stunning interior makes the best use of it to deliver one of suburban Melbourne’s highest quality commercial buildings.
