"Saint-Gobain has developed a new window laminate system based on large sapphire sheet. The sapphire production is done at our Milford, New Hampshire facility. This system makes our new Sapphire Transparent Armor Windows very competitive for this important application," said Jeff Rioux, market manager for Saint-Gobain Crystals. "Saint-Gobain is the only producer of transparent ceramic material that offers complete laminated systems to withstand multiple hits by armor-piercing threats. As a result, we shipped the first commercial order for multiple sets of our Sapphire Transparent Armor System."
"Our customer was pleased with the system's multi-hit performance and our ability to have the sapphire windows available for lamination within weeks of signing the contract. Consequently, we were awarded a larger second contract," adds Rioux.
"I am proud that a company in New Hampshire has developed such an innovative transparent armor solution," said Rep. Charles Bass (R-N.H.). "Saint-Gobain's ability to deliver and integrate their protective windows quickly ensures that Americans who are putting themselves in harm's way on our behalf will have the best possible protection."
Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) added, "I am pleased that an innovative company such as Saint-Gobain is successfully bringing new products to the market. Their technological advances show promise of good things for the Department of Defense and the company."
