PPG Coil and Extrusion Coatings Introduces New Family of Coil Coatings

Date: 13 October 2007

DURASTAR and TRUFORM HP coatings complement other PPG coatings for building market PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) coil and extrusion coatings business has introduced Durastar and Truform HP coatings, a line of roll-applied coil coatings, as a lower-cost alternative to its popular high-end Duranar and Coraflon coatings.

Available in Europe and Australia for seven years, Durastar coatings feature an enhanced super polyester formulation with better flexibility, stain resistance, dirt pick up and recoatability than competing silicone-polyester products. Silicone-based polyester coatings are rarely used beyond U.S. borders based on the superior nature of this technology. The increased flexibility of Durastar coatings is a significant advantage in the installation of building materials.

Scott Moffatt, director of marketing for PPG coil and extrusion coatings, said the introduction of Durastar coatings in the United States is a demonstration of PPG’s aggressive commitment to service and innovation in the building coatings industry.

“With the addition of Durastar and Truform HP coatings, PPG now offers the industry’s most comprehensive array of coatings products,” Moffatt said. “From hard-working coatings for agricultural buildings to colorful, high-end coatings for demanding architectural applications, PPG makes the right coatings in the right colors to satisfy most budgets and performance requirements.”

Along with Durastar coatings, PPG manufactures Duranar and Coraflon fluoropolymer coatings, which offer superior performance and an array of color options for metal roofs, curtain walls, exterior trim and other highly visible metal architectural applications.

For less demanding applications such as pole barns, garage doors, entry doors and truck trailers, PPG makes Truform HP coatings, an economical super polyester coating.

As PPG’s mid-range coil coating, Durastar coatings deliver all the benefits and properties of silicone modified polyester (SMP) coatings without their typical application limitations. Because Durastar coatings also contain an ultraviolet (UV) radiation absorber, they also demonstrate greater resistance to fading and UV damage than standard SMP coatings. Like Duranar fluoropolymer coatings, Durastar coatings also are available in infrared (IR)-reflective formulations, which make them ideal for energy-conscious installations such as restaurants, gas stations and retail stores.
