Industry Standards Seminar for Auto Glass and Thin Strengthened Glass in Shenzhen

Date: 8 August 2012

On July 6, 2012, in Shenzhen, Safety Glass Professional Committee of China Architectural and Industrial Glass Association (CAIGA) organized the first seminar for two industry standards: Production Regulations on Safety Glass Part II: Production Regulations on Auto Safety Glass and Thin Strengthened Glass.

The seminar was co-organized by Xinyi Glass Holdings Limited and attended by the expert group from Safety Glass Professional Committee of CAIGA, as well as 42 invited representatives.

Li Hui, Deputy Secretary-General, presented a detailed explanation about the formulation of the standards. In the past, the standards were made when products became mature and were popularized. The lag in formulation resulted in that the standards failed to guide the production during the initial development period. Now, formulation of standards needs to be proactive and the formulation of Thin Strengthened Glass is the beginning and model of proactive and innovative formulation. The previously “lagging and following” standardization will become “synchronous or proactive”. Currently, there is no standard for Thin Strengthened Glass (thinner than 3mm). CAIGA has applied for project approval and organized experts in the industry to draft the standard. Preparation of the standard has been approved based on GXTK [2012] No.119 Document. The basic structures of Production Regulations on Safety Glass Part II: Production Regulations on Auto Safety Glass and Thin Strengthened Glass were established during the seminar.
