Float Glass Wraps win Award

Date: 10 March 2007

Protective Packaging Limited, based in Manchester are delighted to announce that they have received an award from the European Alufoil Association (www.alufoil.org) The European Aluminium Foil Association is the international body representing companies engaged in the rolling and rewinding of alufoil and in the manufacture of alufoil containers and flexible packaging.

Our entry into the competition was for Aluminium Float Glass Wraps.

As the float glass is shipped in very large wooden stillages, it was necessary to design an aluminium laminate wrap, of a size of 7.5M X 8M, and be manufactured in such a way that it could be presented to the customer as either individual blankets or as blankets on a continuous roll, that could be easily applied to the glass by the operatives. This application involves wrapping the glass in the 60 square meter barrier wrap, and by using a vacuum and heat-sealing process, completely shroud the glass in a hermetically sealed, modified atmosphere package. Packaged in this way, with the correct amount of moisture-vapour absorbing desiccant such as silica gel or activated clay, it is possible for the glass to survive the transit and storage process, regardless of the climatic conditions. An essential benefit for a global exporter. For further details visit our website at www.protpack.com.
