The expansion will serve the fast growing acoustic glazing architectural market in Europe and Asia, building on the current acoustic production capacity in Santo Toribio, Mexico.
"This project is a key part of the Saflex growth strategy and marks the latest step in our investment program for the business," said Tim Wessel, President and General Manager, Saflex. "This expansion optimizes our production on a global scale, providing the highest degree of responsiveness and quality to our customers to meet the fast growing European and Asian markets."
Saflex(R) Q series advanced acoustic interlayer products provide state-of-the-art acoustical damping and sound control with all of the safety and security benefits of traditional laminated glass. In architectural applications, the use of Saflex(R) Q series reduces the perceived level of noise by up to 50 percent.
In 2008, Saflex announced the addition of a third production line in Ghent along with resin expansion plans in Antwerp and Indian Orchard, MA. Solutia also announced the opening of a new Saflex manufacturing plant in Suzhou, China in September 2007.
The new acoustic production capabilities will be deployed within the current boundaries of the Saflex Ghent plant, leveraging existing infrastructure and the plant’s 40-plus years of experience in manufacturing Saflex products. In addition, the new upgrade will be designed to employ the latest technology, enabling production process to be highly automated.
