Date: 7 December 2011
Visitors to the PPG booth (W3417) can preview a new passive solar, low-e glass by PPG that is designed for residential use in colder, heating-dominated climates. PPG will formally introduce the product in early 2012.
PPG also will display Clarvista glass, a shower door and enclosure glass that, with regular maintenance, looks newer longer than do competing products. It is made with a coating that seals the glass surface, enabling it to resist corrosion caused by heat and humidity. When combined with STARPHIRE(R) ultra-clear glass by PPG, Clarvista glass produces an exceptionally transparent shower glass, making it ideal for upscale homes, resorts and commercial spas.
PPG will showcase an IGU made with one 3-millimeter pane of its new passive solar, low-e glass on the fourth (#4) surface and SOLARBAN(R) 60 glass on the second (#2) surface, separated by a ½-inch air space. The configuration yields R-5 insulating performance at the center of the glass.
R-5 windows, which by definition have a U-value of 0.22 or less, are emphasized in federal legislation and adopted in building codes to improve the energy efficiency of single-family homes and multifamily residential buildings.
PPG’s dual-pane, dual-coat technology enables window manufacturers to make better-insulating products without multi-cavity IGUs, which can complicate the manufacturing process and add to the cost of windows for builders, remodelers and homeowners.
PPG also will feature its complete line-up of energy-efficient SUNGATE(R) low-e glasses and Solarban solar control, low-e glasses. To learn more, call 1-888-PPG-GLAS (774-4527) or visit www.ppgglass.com.
