PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) announced that two buildings honored by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) as 2015 Healthcare Design Award winners incorporate PPG coatings and glass.

Bridgepoint Active Healthcare in Toronto, cited by AIA for its expansive views and abundant natural light, includes metal panels finished with DURANAR® SUNSTORM® aged-zinc coatings and shadowbox spandrels painted with DURACRON® china white coatings.Part of a THERMO-3 Series curtain wall by Sota Glazing, Inc., the panels and spandrels complement narrow floor-to-ceiling “pop-out” windows that give dimension to the exterior design of the building while nourishing patients by connecting them to the outdoors.

Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center Pediatric Emergency Center in Spokane, Washington, was designed by Mahlum Architects with SOLARBAN® 60 glass on the curtain wall, which provides open views of the surrounding cityscape through a glass-walled play area for patients, and Solarban 70XL glass for skylights that top the building’s double-height atrium.

Duranar Sunstorm coatings are formulated with mica pearlescent flake to add richness and color to high-end metal architectural components. As part of the Duranar family of coatings, they meet specifications for the coatings industry’s most rigorous standard, American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) 2605, and have been trusted by architects for nearly 50 years to provide long-term color and gloss retention. Duracron acrylic coatings are engineered to meet the AAMA 2603 standard for durability in applications such as window and door frames, railings and trim.

Solarban 60 and Solarban 70XL glasses unite a clear glass appearance and proprietary double-silver and triple-silver coating technologies, respectively, to help control energy use in buildings by transmitting high levels of natural light while blocking solar heat gain. They are widely used in hospitals to promote the documented healing effects of daylighting.
