Pilkington to Manufacture New Solar Control Product in the UK

Date: 13 April 2016

Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, part of the NSG Group, has announced the launch of a new solar control product, Pilkington Suncool™ One 60/40, which will be manufactured at the company’s site in St Helens.

As the latest addition to the Pilkington Suncool™ Range, Pilkington Suncool™ One 60/40 is an off-line coated mid-range solar control product with a thermal insulation U-value of 1.0 W/m2K.

It has been designed for use in commercial and high-end residential settings, to reflect heat back into the property and improve thermal efficiency. With the benefit of medium solar control helping to keep the building cooler in the summer, a comfortable indoor temperature is maintained all year round.

As the entry level product to the full range, Pilkington Suncool™ One combines excellent low-e properties with medium solar control performance. This makes it the ideal solution for smaller commercial projects, or those with flexible specification requirements, and in premium residential properties.

Leo Pyrah, product manager at Pilkington, said: “As a business we have made a significant investment in our state-of-the-art off-line coater and it is great to see this enabling the production of a full solar control range in the UK. Not only will manufacturing the latest product in St Helens enable us to reduce lead times for customers, it will also mean we’re able to offer the product in a range of sizes, satisfying demand from independent installers who often require a smaller dimensions, and increasing flexibility for glass processors.

“Over time, developments in coating technology have revolutionised building design and as a result we’re seeing increased demand for products that combine functionality with aesthetics. This new development complements our existing range and enables us to make Pilkington Suncool™ accessible to a wider variety of end-users, while still maintaining a focus on quality and performance.”

The full range includes the highest performing off-line coated, solar control and low-emissivity glass products from the Pilkington range, designed to help to reduce energy bills and carbon emissions of a building the whole year round.
