Just weeks after it announced it was bringing the AXOR range of European tilt and turn hardware to the UK, Mila has followed up with the launch of an enhanced security hinge for fully reversible windows, developed in partnership with another European manufacturer Spilka.

Mila’s aim is to ensure that fabricators operating in niche sectors have access to the same quality, performance and above all value in their hardware choices as those operating in the mass market.

Managing Director Richard Gyde said: “Tilt and turn windows typically only account for around 8% of the total window market and fully reversible windows around 4%, but, for fabricators specialising in the social housing market in particular, it can be a significant part of their business, so we’re investing in bringing new hardware products to the market which give them access to a much wider choice.”

The new AURA fully reversible hinges offer what Mila is calling the ‘perfect balance’ of high security and smooth operation.

They are available with profile specific head slides to suit any standard PVC-U, timber and aluminium fully reversible profiles with 12mm x 32mm fitting grooves.

All have been independently tested to the latest European and British Standards and meet the Police Preferred Specification requirements of Secured by Design. This means they can be used alongside products like Mila’s ProLinea twin cam espag and NightSecure strikers to achieve a full Secured by Design window, and, with security blocks fixed into the groove on the top frame for the head slide to lock behind, for PAS24 accreditation and ADQ compliance.

The AURA hinges are dual branded because they represent a joint venture between Mila and Norway based Spilka and bring together the knowledge and experience of both businesses and their shared commitment to service and quality.

They are easy to fit with a simple hinge pivot which fits neatly into the centre of the sash, and can be used with window heights from 500mm to 1600mm and with a maximum sash weight of 80kg. There are 21 module sizes available from M6 to M16 in 50mm steps.

In operation, the hinges feature a simple press and hold release mechanism which enables the window to move from the 80-100mm safety position, through the 150-290mm ventilation position and then to the reversed position for cleaning. Of course, this mechanism can be locked for safety, restricting the opening to the 100mm maximum.

Mila says that customers will be impressed by how smoothly the hinges operate and how simple they are to use.
