Standing for "Product Innovation Awards," the PIAs are bestowed annually by Architectural Products Magazine, a leading publication for the architectural and design (A&D) community. Guardian Industries is celebrating two such awards for its innovative products and services provided to both the commercial glass sector and the growing interior glass segment. The global glass company was honored for its "Building Energy Calculator" as well as its Guardian InGlass portfolio, both receiving "editors picks/honorable mention" awards.
The Building Energy Calculator offers architects and other project specifiers a comprehensive tool to evaluate commercial glazing options and their impact on energy use and design. Users can perform energy analyses of various combinations of glazing products, including products from other manufacturers. The free, web-based service helps users set up a project with prototypical building type and building details. The calculation engine applies utility rates and specific weather data for 52 cities in the U.S., Canada and Mexico to generate energy cost and consumption data.
“With greater emphasis and interest in LEED and energy savings in commercial projects, Guardian’s Building Energy Calculator provides a quick and consistent way to understand the trade-offs between various products. It does so using comparative estimates of energy costs and consumption rather than only comparing product technical data,” said Chris Dolan, director of Commercial Glass Marketing. “This honor is a salute to our tech team, who has given architects and building specifiers a free, time-saving tool that helps take some of the complications out of energy savings calculations.”
The extensive website and sample system behind Guardian InGlass provides forward-thinking interior glass solutions that make it easy to put creativity into action. InGlass brings all of Guardian’s interior glass under a single portfolio, providing the platform for designers to browse application ideas, evaluate options, select products, consult experts, and purchase glass. It also connects designers with fabricators, glaziers and others to assist them to make their design concepts a reality
Guardian InGlass is the first comprehensive approach to the interiors segment by a glass manufacturer linking many elements that until now have been disconnected. InGlass helps designers unlock the potential of using glass in any interior application and link them with resources that can help bring their creative ideas to life.
“This is great recognition for everyone who worked so hard to make InGlass a reality in 2011, and it really honors the interior designers and architects we are serving, who were essential contributors to InGlass’ development,” said Diane Turnwall, market segment director, Interiors for Guardian Industries.
The PIA awards recognize products, materials and systems innovation that leads commercial and institutional design to new heights. With judging and evaluation from a panel of 44 architects and specification specialists skilled in product evaluation, the PIA program awards manufacturers based on attributes, qualities, functionality and/or performance beyond industry standards.
