Due to its visual appearance, interesting lighting effects and functional properties, the material glass is also ideally suited for applications in hotel interiors. There is now barely a hotel object, where glass was not included in the interior design.
Susanne Kaiser, interior designer from Berlin, who specializes amongst other in hotel design, considers glass not only as a trend but rather as an indispensable material. ‘It is the unique properties, which make the material irreplaceable. For me, glass transfers visual lightness, besides, it is able to fill rooms with clarity and light. In many of my hotel and office projects, lightness and transparency are a major issue. In addition, glass manages to establish a connection between rooms. In office areas as well as gastronomy the visual references are particularly important for communication’ says the interior architect.
In the projects of Susanne Kaiser the material is applied in various areas, so for example as window elements, partitions, balustrades and shower enclosures. Even as a splash guard in the kitchen area or as sparks protection in front of a fireplace the material convinced thanks to its properties. One of the latest references of Susanne Kaisers is for instance the EUROPAZENTRALE CLINTON.
Another current sample for a successful solution of shower partitions is a reference by Thiele Glas. In the Riu Plaza Berlin, which was opened in 2015, specially designed shower panes of glass adorn bath rooms. By means of screen printing an etched tone was applied on satined glass, the result is a trend: the camouflage design of GFB Alvarez & Schepers architects which was developed out of a strongly enlarged image of bubbles under water. Supplementary, there are adequate black-and-white images of further natural elements, like fire, light, sand and water, fixed in the hotel rooms.
Besides the comprehensive functionality, there are not least the various refinement possibilities, which established glass as an indispensable component in the diverse fields of application.
