As part of the Pacific Design Center’s major renovation project, Glaspro is creating bent, ½-inch laminated glass panels to be wrapped around the interior columns of the Design Center’s Blue Building and Green Building. The retrofitted columns feature custom-design 70 by 96-inch, luminescent panels designed in a ½ circle shape that conceals a light source to provide ambient and low-level lighting. The eight-foot tall panels are very large panels to be fabricated with such a tight radius around the columns. The glowing columns will be topped with capitals of acoustical material banded in steel, adding much-needed sound absorption.
Los Angeles-based Columbia Fabricating is designing the framework and channels to support the custom-design glass panels. Columbia Fabricating is also responsible for the construction of the retrofitted columns and the installation of the glass panels.

Green, president of Glaspro Inc. said, “Our work, in association with Columbia Fabricating, fits the overall concept of the renovation to maintain the integrity of architect Cesar Pelli’s original design while addressing issues of warmth, acoustics and lighting.
