Energy awareness led Steklarna Hrastnik in the finale for Energy Award

Due to the implementation of the best technology and due to the introduction of a series of environmental improvements, Steklarna Hrastnik became one of the three finalists for the Energy Award in the category of energy efficiency (EE), awarded by the Academy of Finance.

Steklarna Hrastnik is amoung the finalist due to the project "Renovation work of furnace B and its surroundings, and renovation of hot and cold part in the business unit Special".Environmental and energy improvements in the aforementioned project occurred due to our own knowledge and cooperation with Slovenian and foreign companies. The improvements are the following: reduction in specific energy consumption of furnace B and a larger capacity of the furnace, a brand-new and energy-efficient cooling system of IS machines, heating of the part of the production with heated clean air generated at cooling of part of the furnace B, and the whole reconstruction of the wastewater treatment plant for process water.

With 8.5 million worth investment, Steklarna Hrastnik reduced specific energy consumption in the business unit Special by 16%. The values of NOx emissions are now 800 mg/Nm3, which is currently below the legally prescribed limit. The CO2 emissions are reduced by 10 percent; moreover, the use of water is reduce by approximately 40 m3 per day.
