The first "Architektur Fenster Fassade" innovation prize has been awarded at the fensterbau/frontale 2006 in Nuremberg by the architecture journals xia IntelligenteArchitektur and AIT in cooperation with NürnbergMesse GmbH.

Edgetech took first place in the "Products of high architectural quality" category with its innovative Super Spacer® TriSeal(tm) spacer.

The competition was initiated in order to acknowledge those outer shell solutions - of which there are many on the market - that particularly meet the needs of architects. It is intended to highlight the importance of architectural quality as the basis for market success. The jury was therefore made up of independent architects from Nuremberg, Munich and Stuttgart.

The innovation prize was awarded in two categories. Category 1 focussed primarily on the "Synthesis - cooperation between architects and industry", with category 2 being dedicated to "Products of high architectural quality".

Edgetech entered its flexible SuperSpacer® TriSeal(tm) spacer made of silicone foam in the product category. SuperSpacer® TriSeal(tm) offers major advantages, not just because it can be easily worked into a wide range of shapes, but also because it boasts outstanding thermal insulation properties.

The most challenging part of the competition was displaying the spacer: it had to be presented in such a way that it could bear comparison with other more "graphic" products. To this end Edgetech was helped out by Hero-Glas from Dersum in Emsland. Hero-Glas is famous for its complex glass constructions, such as curved insulation glass. In order to tangibly demonstrate the flexibility of SuperSpacer® TriSeal(tm), Hero-Glas designed a 3D sail made of insulation glass, thus transforming a spacer into an actual object.

The jury concluded: "The particularly flexible spacer means that heat insulated panes can be used in curves of virtually any shape. This offers a simple method of creating forms which were more technically complex and required more material in conventional production. As a result, it is now much easier to produce free translucent forms in construction."

"We are delighted to have been awarded the innovation prize, especially as it means that the advantages and added value of our flexible SuperSpacer® TriSeal(tm) spacer have now also been recognised and acknowledged by architects." says Torsten Keemss, Managing Director of Edgetech Europe, about the award.
