One of the most anticipated events in the automotive year is the unveiling of concept vehicles at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

At General Motors, designers have incorporated one of the latest design advances, colored auto glass, to enhance the look of their vehicles. Vanceva(TM) Color, a new, innovative glass interlayer product from Solutia Inc., brings that color to the automotive glass. Two of GM's new concepts, the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Pontiac Solstice, have incorporated the Vanceva(TM) Color interlayer.

"We see colored auto glass as one of the most significant contributions to vehicle design in recent history," said Victoria M. Holt, vice president of Solutia's Performance Films Division.

"Vanceva(TM) Color will provide designers and consumers with options they never thought possible," said Holt, speaking of the ability of designers to color match or contrast the glass with a vehicle's paint. For the consumer, Vanceva(TM) Color will allow them to tailor a vehicle to their personality. The GM concepts incorporate the Vanceva(TM) product in light gray on the Solstice, and bluish-purple on the Bel Air.

In addition to the aesthetic benefits that Vanceva(TM) Color adds to the vehicles, other benefits inherent in laminated glass are retained, such as a quieter interior due to the filtration of road noise; increased security, because the windshield and Enhanced Protective glass (side, rear and roof windows) provides ten times the intrusion resistance of tempered glass, and, since laminated glass blocks 95 percent of harmful UV rays, the vehicle interior does not degrade as quickly.

Vanceva Color for automotive capitalizes on the growing trend of using high performance auto glazing, and allows more versatility than any other glazing product on the market. Further, it gives consumers greater flexibility to express individuality, while retaining the benefits of laminated glass. Unlike some other color offerings, Vanceva Color for automotive provides long lasting, durable performance confirmed through rigorous testing.

The Vanceva(TM) family of products represents Solutia's response to customer needs and ongoing market research. Vanceva(TM) products offering superior benefits such as color, design and higher security will be available through glass company partners that manufacture automotive glazing systems. Further benefit enhancements are currently in development.
