Şişecam Group’s glass packaging production capacity in Turkey rises to 1.3 million tons.

Sisecam logoWith the investment in a new furnace at the Mersin Glass Packaging Plant, Şişecam Group adds to its investments in Turkey. The new 80,000 tons annual production capacity furnace will be realized with an investment of USD 18.2 million. 

Şişecam Group's annual glass packaging production capacity in Turkey will increase to 1.3 million tons once the furnace, to be equipped with new technology in step with Industry 4.0, is fully operational.

13.09.2018 – Şişecam Group, a global actor in business fields including all main areas of glass industry -flat glass, glassware, glass packaging and glass fiber- as well as soda and chromium chemicals, continues its investments in Turkey. With an investment of USD 18.2 million, the Group will build a new furnace at the Mersin Glass Packaging Plant. The new furnace will have an annual production capacity of 80,000 tons per year.

Şişecam Group, the fifth largest glass packaging producer in the world with its 10 production facilities in four countries, will be increasing its annual production capacity to 1.3 million tons level in Turkey, with the latest furnace investment at its Mersin Glass Packaging Plant. 

Prof. Ahmet KırmanIn a statement regarding the new investment, Şişecam Group Vice Chairman and CEO Prof. Ahmet Kırman, underlined that they continued their investments as a Group without pause, and the new furnace investment at the Mersin Glass Packaging Plant was an indicator of the Group's confidence in Turkey's future.

“Our Group, which has production activities in 13 countries today, realizes efforts in the pursuit of sustainable growth. With this latest investment, we will continue to contribute to the economy and create value for all of our stakeholders,” Kırman said.

Also pointing out that Şişecam Group is moving towards the highest quality production strategy across all fields of activity, Kırman added that, “Our Group is continuously modernizing its existing facilities in light of technological developments. We will continue to produce with the latest technology at the fourth furnace to be actualized at the Mersin Glass Packaging Plant. We will equip the furnace in accordance with the Industry 4.0 strategy.”

Last month, with the fourth furnace to become operational at the Eskişehir Glass Packaging Plant with an investment of USD 66 million, Şişecam Group increased its production capacity in Turkey above the 1.2 million tons level.
