Schott Announces Participation in Vision House® in Innoventions at Epcot®

Date: 20 April 2012

The VISION House® kitchen will feature SCHOTT CERAN® eco-friendly glass-ceramic cooktop April 19, 2012 – Today, SCHOTT announces that its eco-friendly CERAN® glass-ceramic cooktop was selected by Green Builder® Media to be part of the VISION House®, a green home exhibit, in INNOVENTIONS at Epcot®, which will open to the public on Earth Day, April 22.

SCHOTT CERAN, which is resistant against the high temperatures required for cooking, will be featured in the glass-ceramic cooktop in the kitchen of the VISION House®.

“The VISION House® highlights the major themes of green building, such as whole-home automation, energy generation and efficiency, water conservation, indoor environment quality and high-performance materials and durability,” said Sara Gutterman, CEO Green Builder® Media. “Responsible manufacturing and high performance of SCHOTT CERAN made it the perfect fit in the VISION House®, where it is featured among other leaders in the eco-home space.”

SCHOTT CERAN is primarily composed of natural raw materials like quartz sand and aluminathat eliminate the need to add hazaradous heavy metals as refining agents – a practice that is typically used in glass manufacturing. This patented process eliminates the usage of more than one hundred TONS of arsenic and antimony per year. In 2011, SCHOTT CERAN was validated arsenic- and antimony-free through UL Environment’s Environmental Claims Validation program.

“The SCHOTT corporate social responsibility policy places its main emphasis on reducing the consumption of energy and resources, as well as the emissions from glass production, and aims to produce environmentally-friendly products,” said Linda S. Mayer, SCHOTT North America, Inc. President and CEO. “We are proud to be able to offer our customers not only a quality glass-ceramic cooktop with CERAN, but also one that respects the environ-ment.”

In addition to its eco-friendly features, SCHOTT CERAN has a smooth, non-porous surface that is easy to clean, and its sleek, modern design complements any kitchen. It’s also extremely durable, and thanks to its efficient heat transmission and low thermal expansion it is the perfect material for an even cooking experience.
