Next time I need a window or a door I’m going to buy from Marvin’s.The New York Times last weekend did a business story about Marvin Windows and Doors, the 107-year-old company that’s based in Warroad, Minn., just south of the Canadian border in Lake of the Woods territory.
As with all building parts manufacturers these days, Marvin has been devastated by the new housing bust. If people aren’t building new houses, there’s not much need for windows and doors.
But, the Times’ article explained, in this season of economic unease, when neither Washington nor Wall Street seems to have the answers, the descendants of George Marvin haven’t laid off any of their 4,300 workers or reduced their health insurance benefits.
