Glass & Glazing Design Academy, plus new presentation, available now

The National Glass Association (NGA) is pleased to announce the launch of new AIA-accredited offerings to its library of resources.

Architects can now access NGA’s 2022 Glass & Glazing Design Academy, hosted with Architectural Record. The Academy features 7 AIA LU|HSW credits and 1 AIA LU|Elective credit, including five multimedia presentations, two articles and one webinar.

The webinar, The Ins and Outs of Architectural Glass Design, featuring Chris Fronsoe, Western Regional Architectural Team Manager at Vitro Architectural Glass, will be hosted live on Thursday, August 18, from 2:00-3:00 pm ET. Register in advance on the CE Center website. The curriculum for the 2022 Academy will be live through July 2023.

NGA has also produced a new AIA-accredited presentation, Designing with Glass: Cast and Heat-Formed. This resource is the second decorative glass-focused presentation produced by NGA volunteers. It addresses the different types of cast and heat-formed decorative glass, outlines how to determine which types are suitable in varying applications, describes how products are made and offers key considerations when specifying them.

Michael Saroka, NGA Fabricating Committee Decorative Liaison, shares, “the versatility of glass as a material is further showcased by its ability to be worked hot, forming and shaping into a unique structure, creating surfaces and textures that play with light while maintaining its strength, and casting into ethereal shapes being present while simultaneously allowing you to look past. The new AIA presentation Designing with Decorative Glass: Cast and Heat-Formed educates on how glass’s ability to be formed adds to the design options and experiences in architecture.”

Designing with Glass: Cast and Heat-Formed is the ninth presentation in NGA’s roster of accredited presentations available for member use. Individuals interested in utilizing NGA-developed presentations as part of outreach to the architecture and design community may email sara@glass.org to learn more.

Special thanks to the volunteer members who contributed to the development of Designing with Glass: Cast and Heat-Formed:
