HORN has successfully designed and supplied a cutting-edge oxyfuel furnace for Orora Group, enhancing sustainable glass production in Australia.

Orora Group is a global packaging manufacturer who designs, manufactures and decorates glass bottles and aluminium cans for brands in Australasia, North America, Europe and the United Arab Emirates. At the end of January 2025, the Australian glass manufacturer has fired up a glass melting furnace for high quality wine bottles at its Gawler, South Australia, facility.

Glass melting technology specialist HORN carried out the design, supply and cold repair works of Orora´s new 475 t/d oxyfuel furnace which is one of Australia’s most sustainable wine glass furnaces. The existing recuperative furnace was replaced and converted into a most modern and environmentally friendly oxy – gas heated furnace which will deliver even more sustainable glass containers with less carbon footprint.

The newly rebuilt oxyfuel furnace with four forehearths from the HORN GCS301-advanced series is powered by well-proven oxyfuel technology provided by HORN. Oxygen is drawn from Orora´s very own onsite oxygen plant. Orora’s new oxyfuel furnace is expected to deliver significant sustainability benefits including a reduction in nitrogen oxides of up to 80%, CO2 reduction of up to 30% and total furnace energy reduction of 30%.

HORN and Orora are excited to have taken the next important steps regarding sustainable glass production and C02 reduction by delivering and using a low carbon oxyfuel furnace technology.
