Date: 30 July 2018
The one day seminar, with the subject "Electric Boosting used in Glass Melting Furnaces" was held at Hotel Kunlun in Beijing and in total 50 people from the container glass industry attended.
The seminar themes were presented by Mr. Ulrich Imhof, Executive Director of HORN Glass Industries AG, Mr. Roland Haberkorn, Chief of the Electrical Dept. and Mr. Joachim Gesslein, Glass Conditioning Specialist. During the seminar several important subjects could be discussed in detail between the participants and speakers.
After the welcome by Mr. Maximilian Sollfrank, President of Foreign Units and Mr. Ulrich Imhof, Executive Director of HORN Glass Industries AG, there was an introductory lecture about the current development of HORN e.g. the expansion of HORN’s new department “Glass plant technology” and the latest development of the management and the fields of responsibility.
The focus of this year's seminar was the application of Electric Boosting for Glass Melting Furnaces and forehearths. The first two presentations focused on increasing specific melting performance and improving the flexibility of fossil heated glass furnaces through the use of electrical boosting systems.
Mr. Imhof introduced various Boosting systems. Numerous applications were presented and supported by mathematical modeling. In further lectures, Mr. Roland Haberkorn explained in detail the installations, the necessary equipment and the operation of these systems as well as the necessary measures for maintenance.
Finally, the application of boosting systems at forehearths in order to improve thermal homogeneity and various systems for fully electric heating were presented.
After the seminar HORN Glass Technology (Beijing) organized a spectacular dinner in a Mongolian Restaurant, including Mongolian life music and dance for the customers to welcome them and show them appreciation. The main dish was a roasted lamb and there was a traditional and grand ceremony before supper was served.
The seminar was very well received and HORN is already looking forward to host the 4th seminar.
