Glassolutions supports quality ethos for Midlands housebuilder

Date: 9 February 2015

GLASSOLUTIONS is helping Leicestershire family-owned housebuilder Jelson Homes to deliver on its promise of superior quality as discerning homebuyers and industry regulators push for ever greater thermal and comfort standards.

The housebuilder, which is celebrating 125 years in business this year, has built its reputation for quality by employing direct labour and selecting high quality products for every element of the 350 homes it currently builds every year.Setting itself apart from volume housebuilders, Jelson Homes is set-up to manufacture and install key building elements including all its kitchens, windows and doors.

GLASSOLUTIONS manufactures and supplies over 300 sealed units to Jelson Homes every month to help it maintain its build programme across its fifteen active developments in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Peterborough and Coventry. All sealed units are manufactured using the Planitherm series of low-e glass products, with Planitherm Total+ providing an effective solution for the majority of Jelson’s plots.

And as thermal performance standards demand ever lower U-values for the building envelope, Jelson Homes is increasingly benefiting from sealed units created by GLASSOLUTIONS using Planitherm One, which helps deliver whole double glazed window U-values as low as 1.4 W/m2K.

But thermal comfort is not the only way in which GLASSOLUTIONS is assisting the housebuilder.  Acoustic control is also a priority for Jelson Homes as it strives to deliver the perfect internal environment for homeowners.

GLASSOLUTIONS is helping on certain plots whose orientation makes them prone to occasional external noise.  It is doing this by supplying sealed units featuring the laminated Stadip Silence glass which adds an important additional layer of sound insulation without compromising thermal performance.

Phil Radnell, Commercial Manager at Jelson Homes said: “We have a powerful quality differentiator from the volume housebuilders which means we must source products and personnel with great care.  That includes everything that goes into the PVC-U doors and windows we manufacture at our Leicester workshop, and means having a consistently good range of sealed units at our disposal to suit different applications.”

“That’s why we work with GLASSOLUTIONS.  We value their technical know-how to help us address the variety of thermal, acoustic and aesthetic challenges that arise across different developments.”

Jelson Homes’ promise to build all internal walls using blocks rather than using stud walls is a tangible example of how homebuyers experience the firm’s quality difference.  The benefits of GLASSOLUTIONS’ Planitherm sealed units may be less obvious, but make an equally significant contribution in combination with high performance wall and roof insulation to the overall high satisfaction ratings of Jelson’s customers.
