Spectus Flush Tilt & Turn Windows specified in the construction of 22 houses and 22 flats in Crawley.

A former depot in Southgate Crawley was the site of a development of 44 high quality social housing units for Crawley Borough Council.

The high profile location next to a popular park meant the aesthetics of the development was vital. Architecturally, a contemporary interpretation of the Crawley ‘new town’ style was specified, with mainly brick elevations, using a palette of three colours, and windows with reconstituted stone surrounds on the buildings at the entrance to the site.

Spectus Flush Tilt & Turn Windows were specified with Spectus Approved Window Contractor Jade Windows appointed to manage the fabrication and installation of the 200 windows the project required.

Spectus windows meet the requirements

Spectus Flush Tilt & Turn Windows more than met the project specifications.

Central to the development was energy efficiency to help target future fuel poverty. Spectus Flush Tilt & Turn Windows can achieve a WER of A++, so could make an impressive contribution to thermal efficiency in the homes.

The flush, urban modern appearance of the windows delivered the aesthetics required. The tilt and turn functionality ensured safety and practicality across all the buildings, but in particular the two and three story blocks of flats.

The development was situated near several busy roads, which meant acoustic glazing was required on some elevations. Jade Windows worked closely with project contractors to ensure the windows’ glazing met all the standards required.

An efficient installation

With 200 windows needing to be installed on a busy construction site, effective project management was essential. Jade Windows liaised with the project contractors and all trades on site to ensure window fabrication and installation ran smoothly. The project started in early 2018 and finished in late 2018.

A high quality end result

Spectus windows have contributed to a high quality social housing development with a distinctive character. Councillor Stephen Joyce, Cabinet member for Housing at Crawley Borough Council, said: “We’re investing millions of pounds in much-needed affordable housing and these developments will help to address the high demand in Crawley.”
