The plant is now in everyday operation, producing Pilkington Energy Advantage™ low-e glass for the Chinese market. Meanwhile, Pilkington and joint venture partners SYP are studying proposals for a second coating line. Each line will have the capacity to produce more than 100,000 tonnes of Energy Advantage per year and their joint output will be sufficient to produce glass capable of saving the equivalent of up to 240,000t of CO2 emissions per year.
"This will make a significant contribution to China's objective to reduce CO2 emissions without any negative effects on industry or jobs," said Julian Barnes, MD of Building Products in China.
Nearly 300 people attended the launch ceremony in Shanghai, including key customers, government officials and leaders of the construction industry. Customers were also taken on a tour of the Jiangsu plant to see the float line, coating SQC and the stocks of finished Energy Advantage glass.
