Date: 11 July 2008
The winner of the American national championship, along with the first runner-up, will travel to Germany at the end of October 2008 to represent the U.S. in the International Master Fitter Competition.
The American national championship will feature 10 finalists competing over two days to determine who performs the highest quality auto glass replacement and repair; an awards ceremony will take place on day three. The contestants will be judged in three areas: auto glass repair, windshield removal and replacement, and sidelite removal and replacement. NGA’s Judges Committee will review entries to select nine finalists to compete in Las Vegas in October, with 2006 U.S. Champion Jeff Olive of Glasspro, Inc. returning to defend his title as the 10th finalist. A selection of industry experts from all facets of the auto glass industry will serve as judges during the hands-on competition.
“The U.S. competed in the international competition in 2006 for the first time and we had a great experience—Jeff Olive represented both the U.S. and NGA and came in third place,” said Phil James, NGA President & CEO. “This year, we have invited qualified winners from various U.S. regional competitions to compete with us and have stepped up our own national competition to make it a true celebration of the finest auto glass installers working in the U.S. today. We are looking forward to hosting quite an event in Las Vegas this October.”
The International Master Fitter Competition 2008 is organized by the International Automotive Glass Federation and hosts champion auto glass installers from participating countries from around the world. The overall objective of the event is to promote training and excellence in the auto glass industry.
