Guardian Unveils EcoGuard Mo, Its Latest Solar Product

Date: 22 October 2009

Auburn Hills, Mich., October 20, 2009 – Global glass manufacturer Guardian Industries added to its solar glass product line today with the introduction of EcoGuard Mo, a Molybdenum-coated clear glass developed to optimize the conductivity of photovoltaic systems.

Guardian EcoGuard Mo is a high-performing conductive coating designed for PV systems that use copper indium sulfide (CIS) and copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) solar cells. It is available in several glass thicknesses and levels of conductivity, and has proven corrosion resistance. It is designed to withstand process temperatures up to 600 C for extended periods of time, and is optimized to minimize the electrical barrier between the Molybdenum and semiconductor layer. Combined with EcoGuard Float, a solar glass with high transmission properties, Guardian offers a complete solution for both lites of thin film PV modules.

Guardian has been manufacturing glass solutions for three-quarters of a century, and features an extensive global asset base to deliver glass, mirrors and coatings for solar energy applications. EcoGuard Mo is the latest Guardian high-performing product for solar energy applications.

“We’re excited to bring this latest innovation to the thin film PV market,” said Scott Thomsen, CTO and VP of Guardian’s Science & Technology Center. “As with all of our solar glass, mirror and coating products, EcoGuard Mo is backed by our diverse R&D efforts and manufacturing locations around the world. Guardian's goal is to become a valued coated glass supplier for thin film PV systems and to continuously improve product performance to improve customer cell efficiency."

A global manufacturer of high-quality glass for years, Guardian has diverse product and technology pipelines that consistently generate high-performance glass products for a wide range of industries. A stable, privately-held company with an international solar asset base, Guardian is well positioned to provide the solar market with superior solutions that address current and future market needs.
