An updated statement from the Glass Association of North America regarding the effects of Hurricane Irma on Fall Conference 2017, to be held Sept. 12-14 in Atlanta...

RE: the state of emergency declared for the state of Georgia means that GlassBuild is canceled.

Fall Conference will proceed as planned unless and until the Mayor of Atlanta and the Governor of Georgia declare a state of emergency and require evacuations for the Atlanta area. Even though the governor of Georgia has called for a state of emergency to expedite the receipt of FEMA assistance, all facilities and hotels in Atlanta are open. As of now, Atlanta Hartsfield Airport is planning to remain open. The most recent forecasts for Atlanta are showing a downgraded event throughout the day Monday.

The only scenarios that will cause the Conference to be canceled are: 1. If mandatory evacuations are required in Atlanta; 2. If the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) is directed to close their facility.

At this time, we have be assured by local authorities that there is a very small chance of either scenario happening. We are following established operating procedures and protocols common to all trade shows and events.

GANA is very concerned about the safety and security of our attendees and support your personal or company decision as it relates to your travel to Atlanta.

If you decide not to attend, please be sure to cancel your hotel reservation directly with your hotel to avoid being charged as a 'no show.'

GANA will continue to monitor the situation and post updates if needed. To our members and colleagues in Florida and surrounding areas that will be impacted by Hurricane Irma, we send our thoughts for your safety in the days ahead.

We hope to see you in Atlanta.
