AMETEK Land announces that its Technical Director, Dr. Peter Drögmöller, * and Glass Sector Lead, Mark Bennett, ** will speak at the internationally renowned Glass Performance Days, June 28-30, 2017 in Tampere, Finland.

Dr. Drögmöller will present “Infrared temperature measurement in the glass industry” during the Quality Management sessions.  His presentation looks at temperature measurement at critical locations in the glass production process and highlights new techniques that improve the end-product from the glass furnace. He discusses ways to reduce energy usage and enhance operational efficiency in the glass production process.

Mark Bennett will present “Infrared temperature measurement of thermally tempered, low- emissivity glass” during the Tempering / Pre-Processing sessions.  His presentation looks at infrared temperature measurement solutions for glass-tempering process control and covers the significant challenges of working with the transmissive and reflective characteristics of heat-strengthened and thermally tempered, low-emissivity glass, particularly in the largely enclosed tempering installations found in industrial glass plants.

As a major conference sponsor, AMETEK Land plans to exhibit its new Near Infrared Borescope (NIR-B) Glass, which Land designed specifically for use in glass-melt tanks. NIR-B Glass is offered with an optional auto-retract version for additional instrument protection.

“We are pleased to be part of this forum as it celebrates its 25th anniversary and to address the global glass industry regarding the major opportunities which glass producers have to take advantage of better asset management and process optimisation through infrared temperature measurement. I look forward to giving the delegates greater insight into those opportunities,” notes Mr Bennett. “We also will demonstrate at the conference our innovative NIR-B Glass, which helps glass producers to optimise their production process improving both furnace efficiency and product quality whilst potentially reducing stack emissions.”

The NIR Borescope is able to detect cracks or collapses by clearly “seeing” cold spots from air leaks escaping through the structural refractory, and, with over 324,000 available temperature measurement points within its field of view, the NIR-B Glass solution also can be used to monitor the drift in crown roof thermocouples.

NIR-B Glass delivers 24/7 data to a plant, providing an operator with access to real-time, continuous data, along with an ability to store and trend this data for future analysis. Those capabilities can help save significant costs through the reduction in fuel usage, whilst maintaining the best possible performance from the furnace/melt tank.

* Dr. Peter Drögmöller is Technical Director at AMETEK Land. Peter graduated from Dresden University of Technology in 1996 and has spent the past 20 years designing industrial infrared camera components and systems in Germany, United States and United Kingdom. Since 2008, he has worked for AMETEK Land as Technical Director, where his focus is on achieving accurate temperature measurement in harsh and challenging industrial environments by using spot pyrometers, scanners and camera systems.

**Mark Bennett is Glass Sector Lead at AMETEK Land.  He is a qualified mechanical engineer with 13 years of experience in research and development (Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer) and 30 years of experience in technical sales and marketing (Measurement and Control). Mark joined AMETEK Land in 1996 to support its sales channels in providing accurate infrared temperature measurement solutions. Now as Glass Sector Lead, he focuses on providing accurate high-temperature measurement in harsh and challenging industrial environments for the glass industry.
