Southeastern Based Glass Fabricator and Distributor Breaks into New Region with Its Second Acquisition Completed in 2018.

American Insulated Glass, LLC (AIG), a leading glass fabricator and wholesale distributor in the Southeast, has acquired Great Lakes Glass Distributors (GLGD) located in Michigan. The late December closing marked the company’s second acquisition completed in 2018.

Great Lakes Glass Distributors is a glass fabricator and wholesale distributor that services customers throughout Michigan, northern Ohio and northwest Indiana, providing a complete line of flat glass and insulating glass capabilities, including a range of fire-rated glazing solutions. GLGD is also a stocking distributor for Southeastern Shower Doors.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with this acquisition because AIG brings a wealth of glass industry experience and resources that together will position us to accomplish so much more for our customers,” said Dan Dirmeyer, President and General Manager of GLGD. Mr. Dirmeyer will continue to manage the daily operations of this facility.

This deal follows AIG’s recent acquisition of Innovative Glass of America (IGA), a North Carolina based glass fabricator and distributor, and the opening of a new fabrication facility in Birmingham, AL in August. This gives AIG a total of 5 locations and the company is positioned to expand its footprint and service capabilities organically and through acquisitions.

“2018 was an exciting and eventful year for everyone at AIG, and for the businesses we acquired. A key component in growing our business is acquiring and retaining knowledgeable employees that enjoy our business, and who have the desire to grow with us,” stated Billy Blair, President and CEO of AIG.
