AGC obtains Cradle to Cradle Certified(CM) Silver for its decorative glass products

Date: 15 February 2013

In December 2012, AGC Glass Europe was awarded another Cradle to Cradle Certified(CM) Silver certificate, this time for its main decorative glass ranges: Lacobel, Matelac, Matelux and Mirox.

In 2010, the company led the way by being the first European glass manufacturer to obtain a Cradle to Cradle Certified(CM)* Silver certificate for its float glass and magnetron coatings.

These achievements dovetail with AGC’s integrated Going Green approach, in which the company has pledged to play a leading role in continually improving its products’ environmental performance.

Wide choice of environmentally sound interior glass solutions

With its main decorative glass ranges now part of the Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM Silver products portfolio, AGC can offer architects, designers and specifiers an even wider choice of environmentally friendly solutions.

Architects and designers are increasingly joining the growing community of specifiers and consumers who demand truly sustainable products that have been transparently and holistically assessed. As a result they prefer Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM Products. By actively using these products and materials, they are eligible for LEED points in the innovation category, leading to a higher ranking for green building certification.

AGC’s Going Green Approach

These accomplishments are fully in line with AGC’s environmental efforts. AGC products are made from widely available raw materials such as sand, soda and dolomite. AGC also typically incorporates around 30% recycled glass into the production of float glass. The benefit of using recycled cullet is that it melts at lower temperatures than raw materials, thus using less energy and causing fewer emissions.

The Cradle to Cradle philosophy is a perfect fit with AGC's policy on corporate social responsibility (CSR), paving the way for the company’s Going Green approach. In fact, AGC has had its environmental and safety management systems certified compliant with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 for the majority of its plants, and the company is working continually to improve its performance in this area.

Cradle to Cradle Certification is further evidence that AGC is committed to ensuring a healthy planet for future generations.
