In this newsletter, using that knowledge, we’re going to look at the key reasons architectural studios and façade engineering firms should opt for the most advanced technology in laminated glass processing for structures and designs where quality is paramount. From shopping centres and banks to offices, public buildings and airports, Tvitec’s unique technology makes it possible to create spaces that are as beautiful as they are safe.
1. For post-breakage safety
If any of the glass panes forming the laminated structure break, its fragments will remain fixed to the interlayer, keeping the structure upright. This provides greater safety for people and keeps the space closed until it’s replaced.
2. For additional protection against theft and vandalism
It delays the likelihood of intruders entering through the glass and resultantly deters the assailant. Conversely, it also prevents exit from the inside. This is the case in Tvitec’s new maximum-security prison in Haren, Belgium, where the bars have been replaced with glass that can resist assault rifle impacts.
3. Because it retains transparency and brightness
Using laminated safety glass doesn’t impair the glazing’s transparency. It’s possible to ensure a high level of natural light continues to enter the building by using Low-iron or similar compositions.
4. For noise reduction and UV filtering
Laminated glass, in combination with specific PVBs, allows noise reduction of up to 30% in spaces requiring such insulation. UV filtering can also be reduced by up to 99%.
5. For its versatility in application
Laminated glass is perfect for windows and doors when protection against forced entry is required. This is alongside building façades, structurally demanding systems, bulletproof or explosion-proof armouring, swimming pools, railings, canopies, skylights, floors and staircases.
6. For design and aesthetics
Laminated glass with coloured interlayers (Vanceva) can lend personality and visual appeal to a whole host of projects. It can also be combined with conventional or digital screen-printing patterns to further accentuate its uniqueness.
